Uzbekistan plans to increase the share of renewable energy in its total power generation from 16% to 26% this year, with $300 million allocated to support low-carbon projects. The president emphasized that it is time to transition to a resource-efficient economic model.
EU granted €600,000 for a project, supported by Agence Française de Développement and UNDP, aimed at introducing the principles of green budgeting in Uzbekistan. The initiative implies consideration of the Sustainable Development Goals and environmental agenda in budgeting.
The EU, the AFD and the government of Uzbekistan signed an agreement to support and finance the country’s strategy for transition to a green economy by 2030.
